In our previous article, we analyzed the security icons you can see in the site address bar. It turns out that there are three categories which include secure connection, unsecured connection, and dangerous connection.

This time, we will be discussing ways to browse the Internet safely:

#1. Pay attention to the way the website looks

Modern design and no bugs are the signs that the website is handled by professionals making it less vulnerable to attackers.

#2. Use security tools

Install antivirus software that will warn you instantly whenever you open a potentially dangerous site. Aside from that, there are plenty of VPN solutions and penetration testing tools you may find helpful.

#3. Check URL address

A missing letter, typing, or serious grammatical mistakes mean that you are dealing with an unsafe website. For instance, when in a rush, you may not even notice that there is something wrong with the way the web address is written, i.e. g0ogle.com.

#4. Learn who the website owner is

You can easily check this since each website should be registered to an individual or legal entity.

#5. Watch out for spam

On safe websites, you will never see flashing banners urging you to visit some questionable site and buy or download something there. These look like dirty old tricks from the 90s or 2000s. Yet there are people who still ignore it and continue browsing.

#6. Pick strong passwords

If your password contains the date of your birthday or a certain combination of symbols or words you use everywhere, that’s a recipe for disaster. Make sure you use a random password generation instead.

#7. Keep your browser up-to-date

As soon as you get a notification saying that a new update for your browser is available, be sure to update it. That way you’ll be able to surf the Internet safely.
